University Athletic Association of the Philippines (UAAP) will open its diamond anniversary season on July 14 at SM Mall of Asia Arena.
This year, UAAP will be called “Unbreakable at 75″. It will be National Univeristy’s turn to host this season.
On the opening ceremony this July 14, a traditional basketball doubleheader will be held: NU versus UE and UST against FEU.
The next day, UAAP rivals De La Salle University (DLSU) and Ateneo de Manila University (AdMU) will have separate opponent; DLSU Green Archers will face UP Maroons while AdMU Blue Eagles will take on AdU Falcons. This will still be on SM MOA Arena.
Veteran mentor Ato Badolato will be the basketball tournament commisisioner.
UAAP commission, headed by their president Nilo Ocampo, will produce a technical manual that will detail the rules and regulations of the competitions. This was not done by the league in quite a while.
At least 60% of the basketball matches will be held in SM MOA Arena while the rest will be at SMART Araneta Coliseum. UAAP will continue the practice of selling separate tickets for matches with expected sellout, particularly DLSU vs AdMU games.
UAAP is also hoping to get more people to watch other UAAP games, particularly the Women’s Volleyball who is currently gaining popularity among UAAP supporters and enthusiasts.
“There are other interesting sports worth watching like volleyball and we hope fans would watch them more on top of our basketball games,” UAAP president Ocampo said.
