Cebu Pacific Airline advised that they are going to be forced to stop offering discounted tickets to their customers as the rules for overbooking and passenger refund from the Civil Aeronautics Board (CAB) is getting tighter. The resolution had amended a 40-year-old guideline which guarantees a recompense for bumped off passengers for as little as P150.
No more Cebu Pacific promos will greatly affect the tourism in the country. Truthfully, the promos offered by the airline for these past years has contributed a lot to Philippine tourism as it provided means for the people — even the not-so-well-off ones — to travel and visit the magnificent sights in the different areas in the country.
Owner of the Cebu Pacific, Gokongwei announced that the resolutions for the CAB will lead them to increase the cost of airline operations, thus obliging them to compensate through raising ticket prices and halting their one peso fares and discounted tickets, which a lot of tourists are yearning for.
However, the case is not yet close. “Cebu Pacific will file a motion to reconsider CAB resolutions 28 and 29 on rebooking, refunds, and overbooking because of their far-reaching consequences,” as stated yesterday by the carrier.
Cebu Pacific is still hoping that the case would soon be settled on their favour, if not, the aviation industry will suffer along with the whole tourism economy of the country. Long term effects to the inevitable tourism drop would be closure of some jobs that depends on tourism.
